Megan Woods: CHA Conference 2023

From research to regeneration: addressing Christchurch's housing and infrastructure challenges

Megan Woods brings over a decade of parliamentary experience to her role representing the Wigram electorate, a position she has held since 2011. As a Christchurch native, her deep connection to the region has informed her extensive ministerial responsibilities, particularly around Greater Christchurch Regeneration following the devastating earthquakes.

Her ministerial portfolio under Jacinda Ardern's leadership was notably diverse, spanning Housing, Energy and Resources, Building and Construction, Research, Science and Innovation, and serving as Associate Minister of Finance. This breadth of responsibility positioned her at the intersection of critical policy areas affecting New Zealand's infrastructure, housing crisis, and scientific advancement. Her academic background, including a Ph.D. in New Zealand history from the University of Canterbury and professional experience as Business Manager at Plant & Food Research, provides a unique foundation for evidence-based policy development.
